As title said, here is me comparing my two guitars , both with a Jimmy Page pickups spec at least. First, excuse my playing, I got a flu last days and did not feel well! Anyway, in the Gibson Les Paul, I change the Burstbuckers Pro V with a Burstbucker #2 in the neck and a T-Top in the bridge. This pickup is amazing, despite of the low output, and I raised it a lot up in the ring. Strong mids and highs! It’s awesome and this resembles the guitar Page had during Led Zeppelin era. Mine has also a push-pull pot to reverse the phase (of the BB 2) because I had a 57 classic plus in the bridge, in order to get close to the Seymour Duncan JP custom shop pups, though the magnets were differents. On the Epi Black Beauty 3, I changed only the bridge pup and replace it with an original Gibson Jimmy Page bridge Burstbucker, the black one. It’s a very nice pickup, almost twangy and single-coily, very clear and bright. It’s different from the T-top for the the attack, because of it has a short alnico V magnet and it’s punchier.
By the way, I’m interesting about pickup construction and discover lot of things about humbuckers, especially the Jimmy Page ones. Old and new Gibson pups used by him are very easy to recreate and get close to his tone is easier than you think.
Guitars are strunged with Ernie Ball 0.9 with very low action, played through a modded Marshal JCM 600. Hope this could help tone seekers like me!
