Where we have come from…

We are a real printer with a multi million pound investment in printing technology blah blah blah! That dull stuff kind of goes without saying these days (although we actually are a real printer and we are UK based – some of our competitors are neither of these things!).

What are the real differences people look for when choosing a supplier of any kind? Well, of all the customers I talk to and also whenever I go online to make a purchase there are certain things I look for. The key thing is knowing what is behind the business, who I can talk to (if I need to) and seeing and hearing that they care about the service and the products they are providing. What I believe sets us apart at Print Republic is the excellent team of people we have here who deliver consistently great service.

How do we offer such great value? We have automated as much of the process as possible and the internet is now our primary sales channel. Even in these tough times online purchasing is showing double digit growth as it streamlines the whole process for both customer and shopkeeper which inevitably makes all our lives easier and hence saves money.

I hate being let down and I really hate letting our customers down. I am so convinced service is the key and confident that our team do everything possible to make sure we deliver…

… if we don’t despatch when we say we will, we will give you 100% credit on the cost of the printing!

See our guarantees page here for more information…

If there is anything that needs improving please email me directly at stefan@printrepublic.co.uk I will reply in person as I want to make sure what we do meets the expectations of our customers wherever possible.

Equally, when we deliver products and service that meets, and we hope exceeds, your expectations, I would also love to have your positive feedback, and with your permission it would be great to have a testimonial from you we can use to spread the word about PrintRepublic.co.uk

3D Printing: If You Can Draw It, You Can Make It

29 Jun

Complete Premium video at: http://fora.tv/conference/wired_business_conference_2010

Makerbot founder Bre Pettis demonstrates his 3D printer, which has the capability to make anything from toy cars to bottle openers to Darth Vader helmets. Pettis touts the growing success of Makerbot, saying “I think we’re in a time where if you don’t have one, your neighbor will have one.”

The Makerbot Revolution: Welcome to the Age of Personal Manufacturing featuring Bre Pettis, Cofounder, Makerbot Industries; Cofounder, NYC Resistor.

Disruption happens. A technology breakthrough. A shift in consumer demand. A rise, or fall, in a critical market. Any of these can rewrite the future of a company — or a whole industry. If you haven’t faced this moment, you will soon. It’s time to change the way you run your business. Now what?

How you decide to respond is what separates the leaders from the left behind. Today’s smartest executives know that disruption is constant and inevitable. They’ve learned to absorb the shockwave that change brings, and can use that energy to transform their companies and their careers.

At the second WIRED Business Conference, presented in partnership with MDC Partners, you’ll hear from industry leaders on how to respond to change, and how to use it to your advantage. Through one-on-one conversations between speakers and Wired editors and interaction with the speakers, you’ll see how disruption is transforming the way smart organizations make decisions, keeping them on a steady path to growth. – WIRED

Bre Pettis makes things that make things. Passionate about invention, innovation, and all things DIY, Pettis builds infrastructure for creativity. He is a founder of Makerbot, a company that produces robots that make things, and a founder of NYCResistor, a hacker collective in Brooklyn.

Besides being a TV host and video podcast producer, Pettis has created new media for Etsy.com, hosted Make’s podcast “Weekend Projects,” and has been a schoolteacher, artist, and puppeteer.

Chris Anderson is editor in chief of WIRED, a position he’s held since 2001. During his tenure, the magazine has received eight National Magazine Awards and seven additional nominations.

Artist’s Crash Course: Booklet Printing in InDesign

29 Jun

There are a lot of artists out there that make good money at conventions selling sketchbooks and minicomics printed from their desktop printers. All it takes is Letter-sized sheets of paper and a stapler.

The trick is organizing the pages so they are in the right order when you staple and fold your book down the middle (that’s called 2-Up Saddle Stich binding). Unfortunately, artists that don’t know about InDesign’s booklet printing will often do that page reorganizing (imposition) process by hand in Illustrator or Photoshop as separate documents for each spread.

You don’t have to do that! You can quickly lay out your booklet in InDesign and have it prepare a single PDF file for you, with the imposition taken care of automatically.

Is this a good business model?? ?

Filed under: leaflet printing — admin
29 Jun

Type of company = Leaflet advertising

The service i will be providing consists of 3 service’s.
- Leaflet design
- leaflet printing
- Leaflet distribution

Leaflet design = 40.00 pounds in total.

Most if not all graphic designers and others who can or do offer leaflet
designing service’s charge 30-40 pounds an hour which usually ends up costing anywhere between 100-200 pounds in total, however i am only charging 40 pounds in total.

Leaflet printing = 140.00 pounds for 1000 leaflets

I wont personally be printing them but will get them printed at a professional printers. I thought if offering this as an extra so that the business’s wont have to do it themselves. I will charge 10.00 pounds extra for that because it costs 130.00 pounds for 1000 leaflets.

Leaflet Distribution – 170.00 pounds for 1000 leaflets

I have estimated that it will take around one hour to post 60 leaflets and will charge 10.00 pounds an hour for it. I wont charge no more than 170.00 for 1000 leaflets, however i think it is a fair price.

I am aiming this service at local business’s in my area and there are over 500 business’s locally. I will post all the leaflets in the local area to promote their business’s.

Please be honest! and if u think i should change anything pleast say that also!

Thanks!

ASH!

Hello Ash

There is a huge market for advertising local businesses and I would encourage you in your entrepreneurial adventure!

I would ask you to consider a different business model however – a brochure that numerous companies can advertise in with different prices for different amounts of advertising space – this would allow various company budgets to be tailored for.

If you chose to continue with your model however, there are a few issues that I feel need ironing out:

1. Companies will want an all-inclusive price for your initial consultation on their needs, design, printing and distribution.

2. Your model is very time consuming and you need to weigh up whether it is financially more rewarding than being employed.

3. I think you underestimated how many leaflets you can post in an hour – 100 is not unreasonable.

4. Your printing profit mark-up is low.

5. Companies will be put off by a capped price per hour for delivery. It might be better to offer one price based on the amount of leaflets rather than the amount of time it takes.

This is about giving you ideas to consider and I really hope you don’t take anything critically as I’m here to encourage you Ash.

Hope this help, Rob

Has cosmo girl magazine stopped printing? ?

Filed under: magazine printing — admin
29 Jun

I heard someone say that, so when is the last issue? I got mine for Nov. so is it the last one?

Cosmo Girl’s December edition will be the last one printed, but it will continue after that as a website.

You might find the link below (from the New York Times) useful in understanding the reasons why the publisher has taken the decision to stop printing the magazine.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/11/business/media/11cosmo.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=cosmo%20girl&st=cse&oref=slogin

The report says that subscribers will receive Seventeen magazine automatically after December.

Trying to save a booklet setting as a pdf in indesign cs3?

Filed under: booklet printing — admin
29 Jun

Right now I am using the booklet option in InDesign to print some images out. The problem is I’m trying to save all the options that I’ve set to save it as a Adobe 8 PDF so I can take it some else to have it printed off that doesn’t have InDesign.

Download doPDF and then when you hit print in pretty much any program, you will have the option of printing it to a PDF (saving it as a PDF file).
